SUID-AFRIKAANSE ONDERWYSERSUNIE HANDVES

Die Suid-Afrikaanse Onderwysersunie (SAOU) glo:

  • In die oppergesag van gehalte-onderwys as ‘n kragtige agent van verandering in die wêreld; en dat
  • Hoë kwaliteit onderwys is die onbetwiste reg van elke leerder binne ‘n gelyke, nie-rassige, nie-diskriminerende onderwysstelsel.

Om hierdie visie te verwesenlik, streef die Unie na:

  • Die hoogste professionalisering van alle opvoeders;
  • Die deurlopende verbetering van alle aspekte van die werklewe in die onderwyssektor.

Die SAOU is ‘n polities Onafhanklike Unie gebou op die beginsel van vryheid, gelykheid en respek vir fundamentele menseregte ten einde die individuele en kollektiewe belang van sy lede te verbeter en te beskerm binne enige bestaande of toekomstige arbeidsverhoudingsbedeling en die lewering van gehalte-onderwys aan die leerders in hul sorg te verseker.

Om hierdie doelwitte te bereik:

  • Bestuur die SAOU verhoudings tussen werknemers en werkgewers;
  • Verset enige vorm van onbillike diskriminasie in onderwys gebaseer op ras, geslag, etnisiteit, politieke of godsdienstige oortuigings;
  • Vorm alliansies met nasionale sowel as internasionale organisasies wat dieselfde waardesisteem, beginsels en doelwitte as die Unie deel;
  • Voorsien in-diens en verdere opleiding om opvoeders ten volle te ondersteun in hul professionele aanspreeklikheid om leerders te lei en voor te berei om verantwoordelike burgers van ‘n demokratiese staat te word.

SOUTH AFRICAN TEACHERS’ UNION CHARTER

The South African Teachers’ Union (SAOU) believes:

  • In the supremacy of quality education as a powerful agent of change in the world; and that
  • High quality education is the indisputable right of every learner within an equal, nonracial, non-discriminatory education system.

To realise this vision the Union strives towards:

  • The highest professionalization of all educators;
  • The continual improvement of all aspects of working life in the education sector.

The SAOU is a politically independent Union built on the principle of freedom, equality and respect for fundamental human rights, in order to enhance and protect the individual and collective interest of its members within any existing or future labour relations dispensation and assure the delivery of quality education to the learners in their care.

To that end the Union:

  • Manages relationships between employees and employers;
  • Opposes any form of unfair discrimination in education based on race, gender, ethnicity, political or religious beliefs;
  • Forms alliances with national as well as international organisations that share the same value system, principles and goals as the Union;
  • Provides in-service and further training to fully support educators in their professional accountability to guide and prepare learners to become responsible citizens of a democratic state.
