SAOU INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS INITIATIVE
THE POWER OF LEARNING IS DETERMINED BY THE PROVISION OF OPPORTUNITES TO LEARN.
The South African Teachers’ Union, (SAOU) is acutely aware of the stringent demands a richly diverse and multi-cultural South Africa places on its schools and educators.
Do you want guidance in the Mentoring of Student Teachers as well as Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs)?
If so, then the following information is what we have all been waiting for:
The Faculty of Education at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Helsinki, has developed an (on line) open source course entitled, “Mentoring Student Teachers.”
The course is FREE and available to ALL.
The development of the course was supported by the “EU-SA Primary Education Policy Support Programme”, via a Department of Higher Education and Training grant.
The course is practical, informative and challenging both for the Student/NQT and the experienced educator.
The URL to be used to access the course is: https://www.uj.ac.za/faculties/facultyofeducation/mentoring-school-teachers
Engage with a professional “Life-long Learning” experience of note.
Prof Gravett, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education has indicated that she will be available to interact personally with groups/constituencies to introduce the course if they wish to have more information/input.
AND STILL MORE GOOD NEWS….
UJ and the University of Helsinki are currently working on a short learning programme (SLP) that will be offered online. The content of the SLP has similarities with the open source course, but will be at a higher level (NQF Level 8) and it will be mediated by UJ Faculty of Education academics. The University hopes to pilot the SLP during the second semester of 2018.
The SAOU will keep you posted.
