I confirm that I have read the terms and conditions here below and record my consent thereto.
The applicant hereby authorises the SAOU to forthwith deduct my membership fees payable to the Union on a monthly basis, as determined from time to time, from my salary and to pay such fees to the Union. The membership fee that applies from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026 is R126.45 per month and is adjusted in line with the annual salary increase of the employees in the public service as and when such increases come into effect. I understand that this authorisation is applicable for a minimum period of twelve months; including the month of implementation.
After completion of the application, it will be transmitted electronically to the applicant.
The cancellation of previous and current union membership is the responsibility of the member. Any member who wishes to cancel their SAOU membership shall furnish three months’ notice in writing to the Executive Officer or relevant Provincial Secretary.
The SAOU is subject to the POPI Act 4 of 2013 and undertakes to protect personal information and to only use such information for purposes associated with membership of the Union. The applicant hereby consents to the SAOU recording, storing and processing the information provided in this application and hereby authorises the SAOU to make the necessary administrative arrangements to implement membership. This may include the provision or sending of information to members regarding matters of employment, professional development and services offered by the union as well as the sending of information via social media and in the form of Newsletters to members regarding matters of employment, professional development and services offered by the Union.
Please Note:
A waiting period of three months will be applicable, after which a new member will be entitled to assistance in employer/employee dispute, e.g. disciplinary hearings and/or labour disputes. The SAOU will only consider representing a member in a dispute if the matter arose after the waiting period has lapsed. The SAOU reserves the right to discretionary exceptions to this rule. However, membership fees should have been recovered for three consecutive months in order to be considered a member in good standing with the Union.
The cancellation of previous and current union membership is the responsibility of the member. Any member who wishes to cancel their SAOU membership shall furnish three months’ notice in writing to the Executive Officer or relevant Provincial Secretary.
